On their new 3-song 7” on NYC’s Doormat Records, Cellos hoist themselves into the upper echelon of modern noise rock practitioners. “Standard and Poor” opens with a redlining riff that promptly explodes into a series of melodic and rhythmic thrusts echoing fellow Canuck bashers Metz and the late, great McClusky.
Featuring guitarist Kyle Marchand’s intense, corrosive rasp, “White Suns” crams a Karp-like riff into a mid-tempo banger that gets in and out with only murder on its mind. “Exodus” slows things down to a painful lurch, showcasing the wallop this trio packs. After two well-received 12” EPs, Cellos are set to blaze forth and throw some unsuspecting folks into their woodchipper.
