Joy Rides… On the wheels of Samara Lubelski’s (probably) best album to date, The Gilded Raid, Lubelski is back with a 5-song cassette of even more new material. Although the beautiful purple psychic vibes of The Gilded Raid are all still perfectly present, Lubelski takes a darker turn and tone this drive out with her work on Joy Rides. It’s after midnight listening. The deep connection between Samara’s outré improv and instrumentation and her pop–forward songwriting has never been so strongly experienced until now.
With Joy Rides, Lubelski primarily worked with newer collaborator, Spencer Herbst (Messages, Rhyton, etc.), to bring her new tracks to life. With Herbst on board, Lubelski’s flexing drone more deeply and directly takes the listener’s psychic eye to higher portals. Positive wishes yearn for more documented journeys between these two in the all near future. Bill Nace (Body/Head) accompanies the duo on guitar for the track “Let It Fly.”
Joy Rides is a cerebrally sensed listening excursion, and it keeps predictions for future music endeavors from Lubelski all the more desirably anticipatory.
